News

The John Cornell Late Model #62 Team had a good night in the Billy Bob race at Brushcreek Motorsports Park in Peebles, OH last night. With many top contenders in attendance the team showed they can run with anyone. Driver Andy Bond wheeled the #62 to a third place finish in the heat which earned a 10th place start in the feature. Coverage from the DRC.net's Jody Shannon stated "The man on the move was Andy Bond who was working the extreme highside, moving from fifth to third and began closing in on second running Conley. Bond would pass Conley several times only to have a yellow flag come out". Andy brought home a nice 4th place finish.

John would like to thank the crew for their weekly work effort at the shop. From morning after clean-up & inspection, to weekly maintenance, repair, and set-up; many hours are put in each week at the shop. Without their help, weekend racing would not be possible.

Thanks to all our sponsors and we hope to see you all at the races.

Weekend: August 15th & 16th -  2008

City:
Williamsburg OHCrooksville OH

News

The team made the journey to Moler Raceway Park on Friday for the Ike Moler $3,000 to win Special Event. They qualified in the middle of the pack, started 5th in the third heat and finished 3rd. Started 15th in the feature and finished 12th. The track was slick and black and the only line was on the bottom so not much passing.

Saturday they headed back to try for a repeat win at  Midway Speedway. 89 year old Grandma Cornell was on hand to watch her first dirt late model race. The team didn't disappoint her as they came away with second fast time and another heat and feature win. It was an exciting feature as Doug Dodd jumped out to an early lead with Andy and Rick Aukland battling hard for the number two spot. As the leaders caught traffic Andy moved to the top and passed Dodd for the lead. From there on it was smooth sailing to the checkered.

We'd like to give a special thanks to the Crew & Officials at Midway for their courtesy and assistance in bringing Grandma down for pictures on the track with the checkered flag. We'll try to get some pictures posted soon.

Thanks to all our sponsors and we hope to see you all at the races.

Weekend: July 25th through August 2nd -  2008
Date: Monday, August 4th, 2008

News

It's been a rough couple of weeks for the 62 team;

Friday July 25th the team ran the R.H. Armstrong Memorial, $3,500 to win Race at Elkins Speedway where they finished 6th in they're heat and 10th in the feature

Saturday July 26th they headed to Tyler Co. Speedway where they found motor problems during hot laps which forced them to set out the evening.

Sunday July 27th was the bright spot for the last weeks with John taking the #62 Rocket to the Bible School Picnic at the Belpre Nazarene Church. Mike McDanial also joined them with his #22 Late Model. The kids enjoyed the day and all signed the rear quarters of each car. Thank you to Pastor Rexroad for inviting us for the day!

Saturday August 2nd they ventured to Ohio Valley Speedway for the $3,000 to win Late Model Invitational where they qualified 8th, and finished 3rd in they're heat. In the feature they we're moving forward and the car looked strong when left front suspension problems forced them to pull out of the race.

Sunday August 3rd it was off to Tyler Co again for the 21st ANNUAL EARL HILL MEMORIAL UFO RACE, paying $4,000 to win. This was a pill drawl event. They started last in they're heat and finished 4th but they were only taking 3 to the feature forcing them to run the consy where they finished 2nd for a 22nd starting spot in the feature. At the drop of the green Andy was immediately moving forward. The race was plagued with several early cautions (rough driving is the norm and encouraged in UFo events). On each restart it was obvious that UFo officials were favoring they're regulars. After being forced behind several cars that Andy had passed (this happened multiple times) Andy refused to be cheated and UFo & Tyler Co officials disqualified the team from the event. Although we were obviously displeased with the unprofessional manor in which UFo officials conducted and scored the event we were much more disappointed with the lack of backing the local drivers received from Tyler Co officials. Race teams and fans should also be aware that Tyler Co officials refused to pay the team the advertised and earned start money after the event.

Hopefully all the goblins are out of our system after the last two weeks and we can get back on a roll this coming weekend!

Thanks to all our sponsors and we hope to see you all at the races.

News

The team headed to Skyline Speedway on Friday night. With many tracks closed for the Dream Weekend @ Eldora there were some unusual heavy hitters in attendance. Andy qualified 4th and looked strong in the heat, starting 6th and moving up to second. This earned a 8th place start for the feature. Unfortunately while moving up through the field in the feature Corey Conley was bumped by another car forcing Corey to bobble in turn 2, Andy was closing on Corey for the pass and had no where to go. Andy restarted from the tail and salvaged a respectable 9th place finish.

It was up the road to Muskingum County Speedway on Saturday. The team used the evening to try some new set-ups out on the car. 6th quick in qualifying, started 6th and moved up to 5th in the heat, started 10th and came home with a nice 5th place finish in the feature.

We're headed back to Skyline on Friday (most likely; watch the schedule page for updates)  and then to the IRS show at Portsmouth on Saturday (provided they recover from flooding this week).

With rain in the forecast Saturday, we elected to miss the IRS race at Sharon Speedway. We traveled to Midway Speedway and discovered only one late model when we arrived. We decided to push further north and raced at Muskingum County Speedway. We qualified second fast and started on the pole of the second heat. We won the heat and started on the outside pole of the feature. Andy led until 9 laps to go, Cody Parker passed him and won. We finished second in the Rocket. There were 21 fast cars. Great weekend!

He started 6th in the second heat and finished 5th (4 transferred to the feature). Andy started 2nd in the first consy, won it. This started him 17th in the feature where he would hold his on and finish 17th.

It was off to Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, OH on Saturday where Andy qualified 4th in his group of 9 cars and 14th out of the full field of 51 cars. He started 4th in the second heat, finished 5th (three transferred to the feature). He started 5th in the first consy, finished 4th, taking 2! We missed the provisional spot by 1 car.

On Sunday the team headed to Cannonball Speedway in St Clairsville, OH to wrap up the all IRS weekend. They qualified in 2nd of 8 cars in group qualifying (5th of the 33 car field). Started 3rd in the second heat, finished 3rd (4 transferred to the feature). Started 10th in the feature but broke a "J" Bar running through craters in the track; We finished 25th.

***** One note on the Schedule; Midway Speedway in Crooksville OH has sold. The new owners have moved the race night to Saturdays. Unfortunately the Team 62 schedule will not allow us to visit Midway on Saturday nights. We're disappointed as we we're 4th in points at Midway. Hey Mid Ohio Valley, who's going to pick up the slack and give the racers and fans a Sunday afternoon option?

We're back w/ the IRS this weekend for a show at our home track (Skyline Speedway - Stewart OH) and another at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OH on Saturday.

News

Friday night we traveled to Elkins for the IRS race. We decided to take the Rocket because it handled so well at Skyline last weekend. Didn't qualify where we would have liked, started 8th in the heat race and finished 5th. Only three cars transferred to the feature. We started 6th in the Consy and finished 4th, 3 transferred to the feature. We were granted a provisional starting position due to our points standing. We started in the back and finished 17th.

Saturday after much deliberation we chanced the weather and stayed close, running at Ohio Valley Speedway. We decided to take the Pierce Car because the Rocket was leaking fluid last night. The battery would not hold a charge, preventing us from qualifying. We started at the back of the heat race and finished just behind the transfer spot for the feature. Started on the pole of the consy and won. Andy put the Pierce on a rail in the Consy and we anticipated the feature. The skies opened up and brought a rainy finish to the night. We will be traveling to Midway Speedway on Sunday to get more time on the Pierce Car before next week's IRS race at 201 Speedway.

Sunday it was off to Midway Speedway we qualified 10th out of 19 cars. Started 5th in the second heat race and finished 5th. We started 10th in the feature and finished 8th.

Special thanks to Jared and Noah Nichols for coming with us on Friday night to Elkins Motor Speedway!!! Glad to have your company and your support!

Great weekend for the 62! Andy and the team are showing that they WILL be contenders this season. FAST TIME on Friday @ Skyline, #6 pill drawl put them starting 6th in the heat and still a win in the heat; A nice 3rd place finish in the feature.

Saturday @ the Tyler Co. Topless 4k to win another FAST TIME with a big car field. Once again the dice put them back in the pack for the heat. They moved up to 4th  but due to questionable rules they were forced to start the concy; won the concy and started 13th in the feature. Brought the car through to a nice 10th place finish.

Sunday it was off to Midway speedway. Timed in 8th quick. Won the heat and finished 3rd in the feature.

I've never seen a better driver behind the wheel of ANY CAR. Andy is awesome.

Let all our sponsors know you appreciate their support of the #62 and we hope to see you all at the races!

**Quick News** We ran Skyline tonight. They had 30 Late Models and a good crowd. Andy had fast time, but lady luck gave us a #6 on the pill drawl which started us 6th in the first heat. Andy made the Rocket true to her name and came from 6th to first for our first checkered of the season. We started on the pole for the 25 lap feature and held it till lap 19 but the crew picked a little soft on tires forcing Andy to hang on for a third place finish; WE'LL TAKE THAT! Great Run Andy and Team 62.

We're planning Tyler for the Topless 4k to win tonight and Midway for tomorrow. All depends on mother nature. Hope to see you all there!

Race: MACS Opener at The Rock

Friday 4/11 & Saturday 4/12
Date: Monday, April 14, 2008 by TB & WOC

News

We took a try at Elkins on Friday night 4/11 and that made win #2 for mother nature. We did get a chance to practice unloading and reloading the car :-) so I guess it wasn't a total loss.

Saturday 4/12 Team 62 gambled on the weather in Western Maryland and traveled to The Rock for season opener in the MACS series. The 1/2 mile racetrack was a little rough in both turns. A pill draw of 54 was Tabitha's fault....don't let her in the pits anymore :-)  Fuel pressure problems during hot laps limited Andy's time to get a feel for the track as well as the teams ability to pick set-up. The team rushed to correct the fuel pressure issues and get the car to the infield for qualifying. Fuel pressure was better but all the adjusting fowled the plugs and the car would not cooperate with the clock. We qualified 34th out of 40 cars. A little tweaking and it was time for the heat race. We started 9th in the heat, top 4 transferred, we made it to 5th place. We started 4th in the consy, top 3 transferred, ran in third place, dropped back to sixth and then made it back to third. A last lap pass by the number 1 moved us to 4th at the flag stand. We were the first alternate and waited to receive word of someone's else's misfortune, unfortunately for us, all cars were able to make the call. The track was beautiful, the day was even better and we cannot wait to return!

Next week it's off to the IRS opener at Hilltop Speedway. Stay tuned to website for updates.

Let all our sponsors know you appreciate their support of the #62 and we hope to see you all at the races!

Schedule Update 4/10/08 WOC;

We've updated the Schedule to include Hilltop on Friday and Cumberland on Saturday, however the weather is iffy. We could switch gears and do Elkins on Friday and depending on mother nature. Keep an eye on the News and Schedule page for updates

See ya at the races!

Race: Midway Speedway Opener

Saturday 4/5/08
Date: Tuesday, March 27, 2008 by WOC

News

Saturday we headed for Midway Speedway in Crooksville, OH. Andy timed in 8th quick which started him 6th in the heat. Unfortunately mechanical problems forced Andy to finish on the tail. This put the 62 starting 16th in the feature where Andy would pull the car up to finish 5th; A good outing for the 62. The car looked good and Andy did a great job moving forward while staying out of trouble.

Sunday we cleaned the car up and headed for the car show at Ryans Steak House in Marietta, OH. A good time was had by all. We'd like to thank Linda Huff and all the staff at Ryans for making us all feel at home.

Keep checking the Schedule and News pages for the latest updates on where the team will be.

News

Spring is in the air in the Mid Ohio Valley and the Race 62 Team is ready for the '08 Season. We're pleased to announce that Andy Bond of Coolville, OH will be wheeling the #62 this year. Andy has raced for over 20 years in and around the Mid Ohio Valley with multiple track championships to his credit as well as being the only back to back two time winner of the AMRA International Points Series.

Along with Andy we'd like to welcome his family to the team. Andy and his biggest fan, his wife Tabitha, celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this year. Their oldest daughter Gabby graduates from Marietta College on May 17th with a BS in Biology. Ally, second in line, is playing Varsity Volleyball and Softball at FHHS. Mackenzie, their youngest daughter, is playing volleyball and cannot wait to get to the racetrack! Andy Jr. is equally anxious to get to the racetrack and may possibly know more about each track and car than anyone. If you don't know ask Andy Jr! Welcome aboard Bond Family!

A new Bob Pierce late model chassis joins the Race 62 lineup for '08 and the crew has worked hard this off season prepping the new car and readying the Rocket for the racing season. The addition of another car will give the team additional flexibility in the ’08 season.

We’d also like to invite all the fans to the Race Car Show @ Ryan's in Marietta, OH on Sunday 4/6/08 at noon (823 PIKE STREET MARIETTA, OH). They have a great area dedicated to race car drivers from the area and have several pictures donated from the Bond family. Soon they will be displaying Andy's racing suit and t-shirt. Come down, check out the cars and meet the teams.

We'd like to welcome our new sponsors to the team; Nichols Sheet Metal, Hyperco Springs, Afco Shocks, Poske's Performance Parts, Hoosier Tires, & Jen’s Hair Care join last years sponsors; Wrisco Industries Inc., Gene's Trailer Sales, H2O Pro's, & K Graphics as supporters of the team. To all our friends and fans out there; today's late model racing is extremely expensive and we could not do it without the support of our sponsors. Let the sponsors know you appreciate their support of the #62.

The team is reviewing they're plans for this years schedule. You can find a preliminary schedule on the Schedule/Stats page. Check Race62.com often for updates.
